Adrian Woods is a Dutch artist who focuses on still life photography. For the past few years his artistic vision has been directed towards exploring the juxtaposition between the natural and the artificial. Driven by a childhood fascination for the natural world and a previous study ‘engineering, design and innovation’. Besides his artistic endeavours Adrian also focuses on commissioned work for clients as: Phillips, Schretlen, Verkade, Nio Architecten, 3 voor 12 and VROM.
The book Ornamism shown in Alter Nature, combines photography with quotes from famous philosophers, artists and scientists. It shows in an abstract way the ethical imbalance of biotechnology, how people perceive bioart as the unethical use of these technologies. Manipulation of life is only justifiable when the end result is noble, but who decides what is noble? The ornamism book is a vital part of the larger ornamism project consisting of a promotional campaign, website, book and installation.
