Henriëtte Waal (°1982, NL) graduated at the Man and Public Space department of the Design Academy Eindhoven. In 2013 she obtained a Master in Studio Vacant NL at the Sandberg Institute, a program focussing on the potential of vacant buildings. Since 2013 she is working at the Social Design Master program of the Design Academy Eindhoven.
Henriëtte Waal starts her research by doing fieldwork on location, focussing on a specific context. She researches the relation between man and his surroundings from a social perspective, creating new spaces and habits. Depending on the context of the project, her medium varies from spatial interventions to photography and video.
In 2009 Waal developed a mobile brewery on a former water purification site in Tilburg, in collaboration with local inhabitants. In the context of MANUFACTUUR 3.0, Waal brings this outside brewery to Hasselt in order to brew beer with local resources.
