Merijn Bolink (1967) is a Dutch artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. In his sculptures, installations and drawings, Bolink modifies the natural environment in search of ways of improving Mother Nature.
Two of Bolink’s works will be on show in the exhibition Alter Nature: We Can (21.11.2010-13.03.2011); ‘Nature Sucks’ and ‘untitled (Mondriaan in Como)’. Nature Sucks consists of a willow branch that has been modified such that it reveals a number of geometrical patterns, as do the words ‘Nature Sucks’. His untitled piece reveals similar alterations, but remains limited to geometrical patterns. Bolink uses these works to explore the possibilities of rebellion or revolt with respect to nature.
