Atelier Clerici at Salone del Mobile 2015

Z33 presents a new attitude towards design

Z33 and Space Caviar bring together designers, companies and institutions experimenting with new forms of living and making. From young practitioners to established actors in the field of design Atelier Clerici displays a cross-section through the most forward-thinking work in social design, material and technological innovations, maker culture, design education, independent publishing, and international platforms for design curation and research.

Z33 presents three collaborative presentations questioning the current state and growing discussion on the potential of design.

BEYOND THE NEW

In their manifesto Hella Jongerius and Louise Schouwenberg plea for new ideals in design. “Design is flourishing. Yet, the field has not benefited. What most design events have in common are the presentations of a depressing cornucopia of pointless products, commercial hypes around presumed innovations, and empty rhetoric.” Jongerius and Schouwenberg criticise the obsession with the New for the sake of the New. The publication is supported by Design Academy Eindhoven, Design Indaba and Z33.

BIO Ljubljana

The ongoing process of different projects arising from BIO50, the 24th biennial of design in Ljubljana, are presented at Atelier Clerici, including Hacking Households and BIO50 Hotel, as also insights are given into the collaborative process of BIO 50, curated by Jan Boelen/Z33. Now BIO continues as an international platform for new approaches in design and creates specific projects and resilient structures that are still developing through time, beyond the duration of the biennial.

MA Graduates Design Academy Eindhoven

Together with Design Academy Eindhoven, Z33 presents a selection of Master Graduates of Social Design and Contextual Design. Amongst recent graduates is Gabriel A. Maher. The research of Maher looks into systems of design as they relate to representations of gender. DE__SIGNING is a hybrid between performance installation and movement analysis, the final outcome is an opportunity for the body to experience constructions.

Daily events, performances and discussions will take place amidst eleven exhibition galleries, bringing out new questions on the future of design as well as its links to architecture, technology, and global contexts for living.
