Z33 in Milan
Z33 – house for contemporary art in Hasselt (BE) is again present during the Milan Design Week 2016, organizing with its international partners a parallel programme surrounding the Salone del Mobile at Atelier Clerici from 12-17 April.
Programme of presentations, exhibitions and talks at Atelier Clerici
Z33 operates during the heydays of design in Milan at the forefront and presents pioneers and innovative ideas that contribute to the international development of the design discipline.
After presenting the manifesto Beyond the New by Grande Dame of design Hella Jongerius and design critic Louise Schouwenberg last year, Z33 is now curating together with the design research studio Space Caviar the programme in Atelier Clerici.
The programme includes an overview of 10 years of design by Thomas Eyck; the preview of designer Aldo Bakker, whose solo exhibition will open soon in Grand-Hornu (B); a presentation of Offprint, a forum for independent publishers promoting experimentation in art and design; the inaugural event 'Publication as Plaform' by Fictional Journal, a new platform and online publication, founded by an international community of designers, architects, writers, curators and researchers.
Z33 Goes Oblique
Moreover Z33 presents the special exhibition Z33 Goes Oblique in collaboration with Obliquite, a new experimental design magazine. On show are works and research documents of the designers involved in its first issue of Obliquite named "Paradigm”.
The exhibition is an occasion to gather, confront and understand new approaches in design.

Obliquite is a new annual experimental design publication with a distinctive approach: each issue is thematic and invites practicing designers who undertake "oblique" routes in their work - be it by medium, subject or influence - to put forth their questions, interests and methods. By building a body of texts by and for designers, Obliquite aims to contribute to design culture from the inside.
The first issue, "Paradigm", tackles the boundaries of design. Designers who work beyond functional objects into the media of installations, performances, games or manuals, elucidate in their essays their thought processes on the path to new forms of creation that still concern the design of the everyday.
From young practitioners to established actors in the field of design, Atelier Clerici displays a cross-section through the most forward-thinking work in social design, material and technological innovations, maker culture, design education, independent publishing, and international platforms for design curation and research.
