09.12.2009 to 15.01.2010

Much has been said and written about the sense and nonsense of ‘De Canvascollectie’. Jan Hoet, for instance, proclaimed that “this is what he had always wanted”. Others were more critical, but the debate about art was opened, thanks to a unique collaboration between the arts field and the public television network.

No less than 4.500 artists took up the challenge and entered the preselections. Roughly 250 artists withstood the jury’s sharp observations and critique. The intensive preselections culminated in the most visited exhibition of 2008 held at the Paleis voor Schone Kunsten (Bozar) in Brussels. After visiting this Canvascollectie one could conclude but one thing: the fine arts are alive and well (in Flanders)!

Rachel Agnew was awarded the public’s prize of 10.000 euro, Michelle Matin, Kathleen Huys and Kristoff Bogaerts each took home a jury prize ranging between 4.000 and 8.000 euro. New talent Kathleen Beckers won a solo show at the KBC tower in Antwerp.
