N55 - Space Frame Vehicles

N55 is a Danish platform of artists and designers that work from an open-source principle, in which art is seen as a part of everyday life. From this point of view, they develop projects that can be used in diverse situations. The ‘manuals’ for the projects are accessible for everyone.

N55 has designed a new type of lightweight bicycles for pit. The bicycles are built from parts that are easy to assemble. You can download the construction plans for these bicycles here.

If you are not into DIY, but you would enjoy a cycle, 6 Space Frame Vehicles can also be rented for a day, with trailer if required.

Collect and return the bicycles:

. You can also order a packed lunch via Tourism Borgloon (€8, to be collected at Kasteelhoeve De Tornaco).

Last days Tranendreef & Space Frame Vehicles | pit

This is the last week that you can rent the Space Frame Vehicles by N55. The tree tents by Dré Wapenaar will be taken down as well, for safekeeping during the winter. Next year, the tents will be put back in the trees at the side of the road to the castle of Hex. And, even more interesting, next summer you will be able to rent a tree tent in the Tranendreef!

Last summer, 10 subscribers of the Z33 newsletter have had the chance to test a tree tent in the Tranendreef. Those people experienced an exeptional night in the landscape in the region of Limburg. The many entousiastic emails we received from the winners, made that very clear.

Photos opening two new works at pit

The weather was lovely last Saturday when Z33 introduced the new pit works Reading between the Lines by Gijs Van Vaerenbergh and project Burchtheuvel byTadashi Kawamata to the public. Take a look at the pictures of the opening with speeches and the crowd that explores the art works and also the landscape of the city of Borgloon.

Scultpure by Tadashi Kawamata ready for opening in Borgloon

For two weeks the Japanse artist Tadashi Kawamata worked with thirty-some architect, interior architect and visual arts students in the centre of Borgloon. Around the Burchtheuvel - a historically important location in Borgloon - a gigantic sculpture now is standing.

Today at 2pm the sculpture will be officially introduced to the public and the press. Afterwards we all walk (15 min.) to the church Reading between the Lines of Gijs Van Vaerenbergh. This art work was finished a couple of weeks ago, but now also will be officially be presented to the public. Full program opening event.

Both works are part of the project pit: art in open space in Borgloon, part of Z-OUT by Z33.

The students and also photographer Kristof Vrancken took a lot of pictures during the workshop / construction. Looking at these photos you can experience the whole building process of the sculpture.

Many thanks to the artist, the students, their teachers and even some visitors for their cooporation and hard work. Thanks to the city of Borgloon for helping us making this happen.

September 1 & 2 construction church by Gijs Van Vaerenbergh | pit

Tthe construction of the church by Gijs Van Vaerenbergh starts today! The art work Reading between the Lines will rise up in the landscape of Borgloon during September 1 & 2. The official opening will be on September 24 at 2pm - 5pm.

Reading between the Lines is an art work for pit - art in the public space at Borgloon-Heers. The church is constructed of thin layers of steel. Due to the special construction method you can always see the landscape through the church. This way the church is always present and absent in the landscape at the same time.

The construction is quite a misson. The construction team will be working hard from early in the morning on. You can follow it whole day at the site (between the Romeinse Kassei & de water tower - 50°47'44.56"N - 5°21'2.82"O). And even more, at the end of the workday today there will be a bbq for all the work people, neighbours and art loving visitors.

Have you seen the pictures from pit yet?

Take a look at the pictures from pit and the kick off day at Borgloon-Heers.

At this moment you can experience 4 items at pit. Twijfelgrens by Fred Eerdekens, Tentvillage - Revisited by Dré Wapenaar, Space Frame Vehicles by N55 en Bewegend Landschap (Moving Landscape) by Wapke Feenstra (ism Flacc).

On the pit map you can find every work and their location. This map is designed by Joost Gootens (www.grootens.nl), internationally reknown for his atlasses. The map is available at the Toerist Office of Borgloon.

pit is an organic project that continues to grow, month after month. In August the construction of 'Reading Between the Lines' by Gijs Van Vaerenberg will start. In the photoslideshow you can see the scale model of this church design.

N55-bicycle testdrive in Borgloon

Yesterday Z33 went to Borgloon to test the special reclining bicycles Space Frame Vehicles of N55 on the local cycling network. N55 specially designed this bicycle for the project pit. The Space Frame Vehicle is build out of light material - mainly metal and plexiglass - and the parts are easy to assemble. With the corresponding manual you can assemble this bicycle yourself.

If you want to experience pit, you can rent the Space Frame Vehicles for 5 euros per day. For 5 euros extra, a small trailer with a camping set is included. You can spend the night in Haspengouw, surrounded by the artworks in the cultural landscape, offered by Z33.

pit is a Z-OUT project of Z33. pit will start June 5, from then on you can visit the first artworks.
