Curators Currents #10 announced
Marres Maastricht and Z33 Hasselt have chosen Déborah Claire, Erell Hemmer and Zeynep Kubat as the team of curators for the Currents #10 exhibition. The
exhibition will show works by artists from art academies in the south of the Netherlands, Belgium, and the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Team of curators
This year, the selected team of curators consists of three Belgian curators: Déborah Claire, Erell Hemmer and Zeynep Kubat. Claire and Hemmer, founders of Dis Mon Nom, are both photographers and curators. Hemmer is also a graphic designer. Dis Mon Nom is a nomadic curatorial platform, residence, and public forum for little-heard voices in photography, activism, and art. The third curator is Zeynep Kubat. She is an art historian, and works as an independent curator, writer, and editor for various art magazines.
Organized by Marres in Maastricht (NL) and Z33 in Hasselt (BE), Currents is an annual group exhibition with work by recently graduated artists from academies in the south of the Netherlands, Belgium and the German state of North Rhine- Westphalia. The exhibition is part of a broader support program that focuses on training, networking, and professionalization. The exhibition alternately takes place at one of the two organizing organizations. This year, during the anniversary edition, Currents #10 will take place at Marres in Maastricht.
In ten years, Currents has become one of the most important platforms for talent development in visual arts in the Low Countries. So far, 140 artists from 12 academies in the Euregion have participated in the program and a great many more young artists have benefited from workshops, fund days, and activities. Putting together Currents has also given a major boost to the careers of 25 young curators.
Currents #10 will run from December 18, 2022 to February 5, 2023 at Marres, Huis voor Hedendaagse Cultuur in Maastricht.
