About

Luc Tuymans (BE, b. 1958) is one of the most important contemporary painters. His work explores how images simultaneously reveal and conceal, and raises questions about history, representation and everyday themes. Tuymans made his breakthrough in the 1980s with a distinctly non-narrative approach to figurative painting and has exhibited internationally, including at the Louvre in Paris, Palazzo Grassi in Venice and, more recently, at David Zwirner in Los Angeles. In 2025, he completed a major commission for the Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice.
