Through the eyes of the next generation: Dirk De Wachter & Iris Paschalidis
Z-Talk #3
On Thursday 11 June, psychiatrist Dirk De Wachter and artist Iris Paschalidis will discuss how traumatic events affect people and generations. How do memory and art help us to understand and come to terms with conflicts? And what impact does this have on future generations?
Dirk De Wachter (Wilrijk, 1960) draws on years of clinical and academic experience to reflect on vulnerability, relationships and connectedness. His works include *Vertroostingen* and *Wachten*, in which he explores how people cope with pain and uncertainty. Iris Paschalidis (Antwerp, 1977) draws on her Greek-Belgian background and her family history surrounding the Greek-Armenian genocide in Turkey (Asia Minor). Through her research, she demonstrates how memories and traumas continue to have an impact across generations.
The discussion will be moderated by Nicky Aerts and concluded with questions from the audience. Musician Hanoun Iqbal will provide musical interludes combining traditions from West Africa, India and Western jazz.
