Joke Hansen (°1979, Bilzen) lives and works in Belgium. As an artist, she focuses on painting. In her shaped canvases, she searches for fundamental questions about the art of painting and always questions the relationship between what is depicted and the edges of the cut-out support. She tries to free herself from the dogmatic limitations of the canvas. Cartoonish elements in the form of human figures, clouds or tubular structures such as exhaust pipes and drains often give her work an ironic slant. She took part in several exhibitions in Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp, Maastricht and Istanbul.
